Tim Beard's paintings, like music, do not copy pre-existent things,
but rather exist fully in their own moment, the better to lead the
viewer on a temporal feast. Lines coyly provoke the viewer's
anticipation of an incursion, only to stop knowingly at an edge
that cannot be infringed. All this against a palette richly given to
earth tones, to chromatic half-rhymes as opposed to full
complementary ( mint against grey only in the faintest nod to
pink, or khaki by a white grey on one edge, and teal on the other.)
As larger forms tilt, they paradoxically evoke a transcendental
balance, a universal aplomb. In some of the paintings, occasional
curves dance enticingly around straight lines. Beard's art is
exquisite, and at the same time bold and humanistic. Mind, heart,
eye, and hand converge in each discovery, every affirmation.
